Broughton Street was home to “The Witches Howf,” a thatched house tied to Scotland’s infamous witch trials. And if that wasn’t eerie enough, nearby dungeons housed those accused of practising the “Black Arts” while they awaited execution.
Thankfully, those dark days are long gone. By 1928, Broughton was stepping into the modern age as the first street in Edinburgh to get traffic lights—a shining beacon of progress! Fast forward a few decades, and the magic returned in a whole new way. Local legends Phil and Johnny Cunningham turned heads with their Scottish folk band, Silly Wizard, cementing Broughton’s place as a hub for creativity.
