You’ve heard of the January Blues, right? That post-holiday slump where the sparkle of December feels like a distant memory? But have you heard of Blue Monday? Back in 2005, British psychologist Dr. Cliff Arnall crunched the numbers and declared the third Monday of January the most depressing day of the year. With a mix of dreary weather, holiday debt, fading resolutions, and overall low motivation, the day has earned its melancholy title. But this year, something remarkable happened to turn the gloom into glee!
Enter Bella, a savvy local business owner determined to flip the script for her 40-strong team. Instead of letting Blue Monday drag them down, she decided to lift spirits in the most delicious way possible. And who did she call for the job? None other than Hog Roast Huncoat!
We were thrilled to bring some sunshine (and sizzling pork) to Bella’s workplace. From the early morning hours, our team was hard at work preparing a feast that would banish any trace of Blue Monday blues. By lunchtime, the air was filled with the irresistible aroma of slow-roasted pork and sage-infused stuffing, tempting even the most focused employees to take a well-deserved break.
When the team gathered around our centrepiece – a perfectly roasted hog, golden and glistening – they couldn’t contain their smiles. Even the grey skies seemed to fade into the background as our chef got to work, carving the tender meat and crunchy crackling. Every bite was a celebration, served on the softest gluten-free buns with all the trimmings: applesauce, crispy fries, lemony coleslaw, and a lineup of condiments to suit every taste. For the non-meat eaters, we laid out a vibrant selection of grilled veggie skewers, halloumi, flatbreads, and creamy tzatziki.
Bella’s team laughed, bonded, and savoured every morsel, proving that even the darkest days can be brightened with a hearty meal and good company. By the time Hog Roast Huncoat packed up and headed for home, “Blue Monday” was nothing more than a distant memory.
So, next time the January Blues roll around, remember: all it takes is a little creativity – and a lot of good food – to turn the tide on this depressing holiday.
Blue Monday who? At Hog Roast Huncoat, we say, bring on the smiles!
